We are inviting applications for a post-doctoral scientist to join the Waltzer team in the “Genetic Development and Reproduction” (GReD) research unit in Clermont-Ferrand (France).
The main interest of our group is to understand the fundamental mechanisms that regulate gene expression and how they are affected in pathological situations. Using Drosophila as a model organism, we are particularly interested in the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of blood cell fate and in the development of Drosophila models for leukemia. Following the recent relocation of our team to the GReD in Clermont-Ferrand, we are now seeking to recruit a talented and motivated post-doc to expand our work into the epitranscriptomic field, as part of a collaborative ANR-funded project..
The recent characterisation of reversible nucleoside modifications in messenger RNA and of their cognate modifying enzymes has sparked a tremendous interest. Yet, our knowledge of the consequences of these modifications on gene expression is still very limited and their roles in organism development and physiology remain largely unknown. Taking advantage of new tools developed in our team, the post-doctoral fellow will characterise the in vivo function and molecular mechanism of action of a conserved RNA modifying enzyme involved in leukemia, using a combination of cutting-edge NGS technologies and genetic approaches.
The candidate must hold a PhD in Life Sciences, in the field of molecular biology, developmental biology and/or genetics. Candidates with previous experience with fly handling and/or NGS analysis are particularly encouraged to apply..
The position is immediately available and is funded forthree years. Salary scale for the post is in the range from 35.000 and 46.000€ p.a. inclusive, depending on experience.
The Genetics, Reproduction and Development laboratory (www.gred-clermont.fr) is a multi-disciplinary CNRS-INSERM-University research institute on the medical campus of the University Clermont-Auvergne (35,000 students) the main university in central France, localised in the lively city of Clermont-Ferrand, with attractive living conditions.
The GReD consists of 14 groups with research interests ranging from genome dynamics and epigenetic control, development and stem cell biology to endocrinology and cancer. It offers state-of-the-art equipments and all technological facilities required for the project and constitutes an excellent environment for high quality and intensive scientific life and training.
